About

The City of Wisconsin Rapids uses a zoning code to guide growth and development. Since it was first adopted in 1964, it has been amended numerous times to account for changing conditions. Those amendments have in many cases further complicated the zoning regulations and created inconsistent requirements. Not only that, the current code does not always reflect best zoning and planning practices. And finally, the zoning code does not fully implement the recommendations in the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

The City has undertaken this project to create a new zoning code. Some parts of the existing zoning code will be carried forward into the new code, while other parts will be substantially revised. Entirely new sections will be added as well.

When completed, the new zoning code will look and feel different. It will be more user-friendly. It will be integrated into other land-use regulations and be internally consistent, with no overlapping or contradictory provisions. The new code will be readable and understandable. Graphics and drawings will be used to increase reader comprehension.
